Tantalus Community School is located in the Village of Carmacks on the traditional territory of Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nation. Situated at the confluence of Yukon and Nordenskiold rivers, Carmacks is 180 kilometers north of Whitehorse on the Klondike Highway. The Village of Carmacks offers amazing hiking and recreation opportunities as well as amenities such as gym and weight room, indoor pool, youth centre, golf course, and, coming soon, a multi-functional indoor arena.

Tantalus Community School nurtures and educates around 112 students. Tantalus School strives to offer high quality instruction using the British Columbia curriculum while integrating a project and inquiry based approach. Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor of Education or equivalent;

Recent experience teaching (or practicum) at the elementary level using differentiated instruction to address a wide range of abilities and learning styles;

Recent experience working with First Nation students and families in an educational setting would be an asset;

Experience developing Student Learning Plans and Individual Education Plans would be an asset;

Experience providing interactive learning experiences through the use of technology would be an asset;

Experience with the new literacy and numeracy curriculum from British Columbia would be an asset;

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish trusting relationships and work with students, parents, staff members and administrators;

Strong classroom management, planning, organizational and assessment skills;

Ability to administer diagnostic, formative and summative assessments;

Ability to work as a member of a professional team and willingness to participate in the total school program;

A knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nation students;

An understanding of and an ability to implement a balanced literacy program at the intermediate level;

Willingness to live and participate in a small northern community;


To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must be certified in another Canadian province/territory first.

Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security/vulnerable sector check.
