NBS offers an Academic program for 160 highly- motivated Canadian and international students enrolled in grades 6 through 12, focusing on an education which complements their dance training and maximizes their educational and career options. The school seeks a dynamic, upbeat, and respected teacher who brings passion and vibrancy to eager students. Working in a collaborative and collegial environment, this position will have the primary responsibility for teaching senior level Science and Math.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop course outlines, with the Academic Principal, according to Ministry of Education curriculum guidelines.

Plan, prepare, and teach well-developed lessons which engage and inspire students, and promote enjoyment of learning; effectively and appropriately differentiate instruction in subject area to meet all students’ learning needs.

Record attendance, apply a variety of assessment practices, and prepare reports following Ministry and School guidelines.

Assess and evaluate student learning, write report cards, report to parents.

Maintain order and discipline in the classroom during school activities, on premises and at alternate venues.

Perform duties to accommodate the needs of individual students and the demands of the ballet training activities (e.g. extra teaching, additional classes).

Communicate regularly with families to keep them informed and involved in school activities.


Bachelor Degree with valid teaching certificate; and Member of the Ontario College of Teachers

Direct teaching experience in a classroom setting with demonstrated classroom management skills with ability to develop a caring, welcoming classroom

Direct teaching experience in the area of Science and Math at the Secondary level

Well-developed communication and grammar skills (written and oral)

Ability to develop positive rapport with students and their families and to respond to student issues/emergencies as needed

Familiarity with online educational learning resources (e.g. Google Classroom); strong organizational skills and ability to work as part of a team

Familiarity with the Ontario curriculum

Flexibility, strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to set priorities and meet deadlines

Successful candidates must supply Canada’s National Ballet School with a Vulnerable Sector Reference Check, in accordance with the School’s Child Abuse/Sexual Abuse Prevention Policy; this will be coordinated through the Human Resources Department of NBS.
