Information Systems Specialist (term)

Location: Business & Learning Technologies, 133 Greenbank Road

Status: Full-time (100%), Term Assignment until June 30, 2023

Work Week: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week

Salary: ESP, Level 6 - $43,749 to $55,890

Under the direction of the Team Leader for Information Systems, the Specialist provides training and support to district staff on corporate systems focusing on the student information system product suite. The student information system collects, maintains, and reports on the formal academic records for current and former OCDSB students and including data on registration, attendance, scheduling, enrollment, achievement, and programs.

The team of Information Specialists work with both school and board staff on ministry reporting to generate funding, data standards, business rules, and ministry guidelines. This role also supports the continual development of technological expertise and participates in the expansion and modernization of the suite of products.

Candidates will be shortlisted based on their knowledge, understanding and experience in student information systems.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have completed a community college program in Computer Science, Computer Technology or Business. and has a minimum of 3 years of related experience; An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.

Working knowledge of the Student Information System and experience in presenting workshops, writing documentation and providing training large groups is a requirement of this position.

A valid driver's license and access to personal vehicle is also required for travel to District sites.

In depth experience working with student information systems, business rules and applicable Ministry legislation and guidelines.

Experience with interactive technologies for support and presentations to school personnel. Written communication skills required for writing reports, workshop manuals and training materials. Interpersonal and communication skills to exchange and clarify information

good general knowledge of relevant Board policies and procedures, administrative and school structure as well as Ministry policies on software, regulation and standards.

Knowledge of peripherals, server management, operating systems, backup methods, network usage, and academic and administrative applications for presentations/training.

Experience with digital video production to create tutorials.

Experience supporting and instructing in the use of web-based applications. Experience collaborating, producing and presenting with digital and social media.

Organization and time management skills are required to prioritize work and manage multiple priorities.

Troubleshooting skills to assist in identifying and solving basic technology issues. Judgment skills when making decisions on security access issues, and in determining corrective or appropriate actions when troubleshooting software problems.

Research skills to locate resources and information, and review vendor documentation and evaluate software. The ability to learn new materials and technology without instructions and work with minimal supervision.
