POSITION SUMMARY:

The Simcoe County District School Board is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Summer Learning Program (SLP) teacher. Reporting to the program supervisor, the successful candidate will be committed to supporting students in Grades 1 to 3 French Immersion (FI) who would benefit from direct instruction in the areas of phonemic awareness, letter-sound awareness, letter-sound correspondence, fluency, and early reading comprehension strategies.

This year (2022), elementary summer learning programs will be delivered in-person and/or online (depending on enrolment and participation) at one of two (2) locations including Cundles Heights PS (Barrie) or Fred C. Cook (Bradford).

Teachers will instruct one class on-site, mornings only (either virtual or in-person), based on student enrolment and teacher preference. SCHEDULE FOR THE READING READINESS (FRENCH) PROGRAM:

mandatory training sessions on July 7 and 8, 2022 (2 days 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.)

Reading Readiness Program (French) July 11 to 29, 2022 (15 days 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

French as a Second Language Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) qualifications;

preference will be given to existing SCDSB teachers with special education qualifications who have experience in the use of direct instruction, as well as an understanding of the developmental process involved in teaching students to read effectively.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

Successful applicants for the Reading Readiness (French) summer learning program teacher position will demonstrate evidence of:

ability to integrate technology into their daily practice;

a deep understanding of learning pedagogy;

collaboration and teamwork with colleagues;

excellent oral and written communication skills in French.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES FOR READING READINESS (FRENCH) TEACHERS:

provide instruction to SCDSB primary-aged elementary students in the area direct reading instruction (in-person or online) in French;

implement effective student assessment practices (e.g. descriptive feedback);

enhance curriculum-based content to integrate with differentiated instructional strategies designed to improve student engagement and foster deeper learning;

knowledge of the board approved virtual learning environment (e.g. Google Classroom).

All Teaching positions will be available subject to student enrolment.
