OXFORD HOUSE FIRST NATION OF EDUCATION

Oxford House is located at the northeast end of Oxford House

on the Hayes River system. The population is 2,559 of which 2,198 reside

on reserve. Oxford House is an isolated community and is accessible by

air year round and by winter road during the winter months.

Oxford House is an outdoor person’s

paradise. The people of Oxford House still practice the traditional ways of

fishing, hunting, and trapping.

IT IS THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE OXFORD HOUSE ELEMENTARY

SCHOOL AND 1972 MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL THAT THE MAJORITY OF ALL STUDENTS CAN BE

BEST SERVED THROUGH ADAPTED AND MODIFIED REGULAR SCHOOL PROGRAMS. WITHIN THE

CAPACITY OF ITS RESOURCES THE SCHOOL WILL MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO PROVIDE A

CONTINUUM OF INCLUSIVE SERVICES THAT ARE APPROPRIATE, GOAL-DIRECTED AND

DEVELOPED THROUGH COMPREHENSIVE TEAM CONSULTATION AND COLLABORATION

The ideal candidate will

have:

A

Manitoba Teacher’s Certificate or eligibility for teacher certification in the

Province of Manitoba.

Demonstrated successful teaching in an early years

setting.

Knowledge of K-8 Manitoba Curriculum and

cross-curricular planning

Ability to work well with teachers in a collaborative

and consultative environment.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work cooperatively as part of an educational

team.

Excellent classroom management skills.

Ability to build program with a northern perspective.

A knowledge and sensibility to the traditions and

aspirations of students with diverse abilities and backgrounds.
