Position Overview:

Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Groundskeeper is responsible for general groundskeeping, landscape maintenance and gardening of the Pemberton Woods and Beach Drive campuses as well as our Gryphon House boarding residence. This role will work as part of the Facilities team and share responsibility for maintaining safe and beautifully maintained campuses that are welcoming for students, staff and visitors.

The successful candidate will be a conscientious and hard working individual with a cheerful and positive disposition who aligns with our core values of Truth, Courage, Caring, Individuality and Community. This is a service oriented role where excellent interpersonal skills will be important to forge great relationships with faculty and staff to support a respectful and productive work environment.


Performs groundskeeping, landscape maintenance and gardening duties prioritizing scheduled routines in consideration of location, noise, use of fields and parking areas and events;

Performs a variety of landscaping tasks that include but are not limited to:

planting, cultivation, edging and lawn maintenance including the grooming and care of the artificial turf field

weeding, mulching, fertilizing and maintaining garden areas;

pruning and trimming shrubs, trees and ground covers;

planting flowers and shrubs as requested;

raking, sweeping, and using a leaf blower to collect leaves and debris from lawn and asphalt areas; bagging leaves and disposing;

Maintains hard surfaces by pressure washing sidewalks, driveways and parking lots;

Keeps walkways, driveways and entrances clean; performs snow and ice removal and applies ice melt products as required;

Maintains and repairs automatic sprinkler systems and water features;

Operates and does minor maintenance on mowers, edgers, trimmers and sweepers such as sharpening blades and uses various equipment and tools as required in the performance of the role;

Maintains high standards in line with the school’s desired esthetic and is receptive to feedback for continuous improvement;

Acts as a member of the maintenance team and assists with some general maintenance tasks such as moving equipment, setting up for events etc.

Education / Experience:

A relevant certificate in landscaping, facilities maintenance or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Minimum of five years experience in landscaping or facilities maintenance.

Knowledge and Skills:

Thorough knowledge of grounds maintenance and the proper maintenance of grounds equipment

A great attitude with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong relationships with students, teachers, staff and parents.

Ability to show leadership and work as a team member to foster a supportive and service-directed climate among employees and departments.

Ability to establish and effectively manage a yearly budget.

Ability to manage multiple jobs in an organized and efficient manner.

Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high work standards.

High degree of professionalism.

A valid BC Class 5 driver’s license
