The British Columbia Public School Employers' Association (BCPSEA) supports public education through innovative human resource practices, partnerships, and services. We are the full-service employers' association and accredited bargaining agent for BC's 60 public boards of education.
BCPSEA's Coordinated Legal and Arbitration Support Services (CLASS) is a shared service that coordinates labour litigation on behalf of BC's 60 public school districts.
As Legal Counsel, you will report to the Senior Manager, Employee Relations and Sector Initiatives and will act as counsel for BCSPEA for grievance arbitrations, labour board hearings, and related processes.
As a labour law expert, you will provide advice to BCPSEA and school districts on matters related to collective agreements, arbitration awards, and regulatory and other legislative provisions. You will also provide legal interpretations and advice on complex issues that may directly impact strategic planning on provincially significant matters and decision-making at the executive level.
Critical to your success will be your ability to develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with BCPSEA district liaisons, school district HR staff, and union representatives.
To be considered, candidates must be in good standing with the Law Society of BC, have five years of experience as a labour lawyer in BC, and be able to conduct grievance arbitrations independently. Experience in K-12 and/or the public sector in a unionized environment is preferred.
If you are interested in joining a diverse team who pride themselves on their service and solution orientation, please send your résumé and supporting documentation to Chris Beneteau, Senior Director, Employee Relations at email@example.com by the close of business on December 17, 2021 by 4:30PM PST .
