Summary of the Opportunity

SelfDesign Learning Community has an immediate need for Special Education educators for the 2021-22 learning year. We welcome applications from B.C. certified teachers with a background in Special Education and a desire to work in a unique online learning environment in support of students from Grade 10-12. There is part-time work available.

Work Environment

We operate during Pacific Time zone business hours, Monday to Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Special Education educators set their own hours of work, however, educators need to be available during times when families are available to meet. Special Education educators also need to be available for occasional online meetings. Meetings are scheduled in advance.

Timelines

Contract start date: As soon as possible

Contract end date: July 31, 2022

Contract Details

Oversight

You will work at the direction of the Team Lead listed above, and in close collaboration with the Educator Services team.

Services Required

Annual and weekly planning for learning

Preparation of Individual education plans

Engage weekly with learners to support learning

Weekly, seasonal, and annual assessment of learning

Skills and Competencies

An inclusive practice that accepts and respects diverse backgrounds and approaches to learning.

An openness to being mentored in the SelfDesign philosophy, relationship-based methodology and heart-centred approach to working with families.

Positive energy with the ability to view new experiences and challenges as learning opportunities.

Highly organized with the willingness and ability to create and maintain required documentation in a timely manner.

Ability to hold the space with patience and warmth when working with people who are feeling anxious and stressed.

High level of comfort and competence in using online tools.

Comfortable with change, particularly with respect to technology.

Computer and digital literacy.

Experience and Credentials

B.C. Certified teacher in good standing

Training and experience with students with low incidence designations

Creation and implementation of Individual Education Plans

Experience and/or interest in learner-centered education

Experience in personalized, passion-based learning

Distributed Learning (DL) experience.

Mandatory requirements

Prior to being contracted, applicants must successfully complete an online orientation (approximately10 asynchronous hours).

All contractors are required to take the SelfDesign online privacy and security fundamentals courses (approximately 1 hour per course).
