School District 52 has a career opportunity for a full time Occupational Therapist. Reporting to the District Principal of Learning Services, the successful applicant will be responsible for the Occupational Therapy needs of students in the district and work collaboratively to integrate student programming with other disciplines such as Speech-Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, and for students with visual or hearing impairments.
Interested candidates must have post-secondary education in Occupational Therapy and be eligible for membership in the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists and the B.C. Society of Occupational Therapy.
Occupational Therapist Responsibilities
Liaise closely with the teachers, educational assistants, the multi-disciplinary team and parents who participate as part of each learner’s support team
Provide effective occupational therapy services to students in our schools by working collaboratively with students, families, administration, educational staff, and external agencies
Develop intervention programs, conduct periodic re-assessment/evaluation of individual programs and recommend adjustments as needed
Develop goals and strategies, intervention plans, and make necessary adaptation recommendations on an on-going basis
Provide direct services to children on the Occupational Therapy caseload
Facilitate professional development for parents, teachers and educational assistants that teach effective strategies to support children’s/students’ learning needs
Reporting to the District Principal of Learning Services the OT will support and promote the success of all students as part of multidisciplinary teams across the school district
Attend staff, department, IEP, and other meetings as required
Provide input into the development and implementation of group programs
Observe and document/track students’ progress and functional skills report on a regular and ongoing basis
Research and provide consultation regarding adaptive equipment and technical aids
Support classroom teams to implement strategies within the classroom environment
Support teachers and school teams in transitioning of children/students to other grades/programs/schools.
