Stz’uminus Education Society (SES) is seeking a collaborative & innovative Intermediate Elementary Teacher to join our team at our beautiful location in Ladysmith, BC on central Vancouver Island.

The Primary Teacher will work collaboratively with our Educators, Administration, Partners and Community Members, including Elders & Knowledge Keepers, to support our Learners. While the focus for this position is on elementary Learners, our programs span all ages and our Educators support all of our programs.

As the education provider for Stz’uminus First Nation, Stz'uminus Education Society offers inspiring and engaging programs for our learners and our staff. We are committed to supporting and nurturing a progressive, successful community through the advancement of First Nations Education.


You develop, deliver & implement learning opportunities for our middle grade Learners; the available assignment is in a grade 6 & 7 classroom.

You facilitate your students’ progress with innovative & unconventional learning opportunities, prioritizing land-based learning and integration of Stz’uminus & Coast Salish teachings.

You continuously develop relationships with your peer Educators, other SES Staff, Students, Partners, Community Members & Families.

You collaborate with SES team members at all levels to develop, enhance & lead explorations, projects, units and lessons.

You participate with dedication in all aspects of our School Community.

You conduct & contribute to assessments of & for learning, as well as metric and reporting requirements.


You are a dedicated Educator & a Lifelong Learner who leads with relationship and respect.

You recognize that the most impactful learning can happen outside of a conventional classroom.

You are qualified in current good standing with the BC TRB, or are immediately eligible for certification & are legally entitled to work in Canada.

You have proven recent successes developing and facilitating individualized and unconventional learning opportunities, ideally in land-based learning programs.

You are dedicated to incorporating our indigenous Coast Salish culture, hul’q’umi’num language & Stz’uminus ways of knowing in your teaching and personal learning journey.

You are confident with behavior management and able to care for yourself & others in challenging situations.

You are a collaborative team player who respects and values what each member of the Community contributes to the education of our Learners.

You are eligible for clearance on a Criminal Record Check for working with children and vulnerable persons.

You are passionate about supporting indigenous students in their success.
