This workshop provides concrete tips, tools and strategies to implement immediately into your practice. You will leave with a deeper understanding of the circumstances and contexts where challenges can emerge. After participating in the webinar, you will be able to:
- Recognize common legal issues that emerge during the hiring process
- Identify tools and strategies to mitigate problems and prevent challenges
- Know how best to respond if you receive a complaint
- Recognize when seeking legal advice is warranted

Janet is passionate about enhancing student success and believes that constructing outstanding employee recruitment, selection and retention processes is critical. Janet's 30-year career in the education sector has positioned her well to support human resource leadership practices. She taught in Ontario and BC before moving into school administration. She has worked as a senior leader in a large, urban school district and at the provincial level in British Columbia. In 2008, Janet was one of the original founders of Make a Future ― a provincial initiative focused on enhancing recruitment and retention of employees in the British Columbia education sector. She has led large recruitment drives, supported Boards of Education in senior executive search processes, and has worked in negotiations and labour relations.
In addition to her M.Ed. in Adult Education, Janet has a Certificate in Conflict Resolution from the Justice Institute of BC, a Certificate in Organizational Development from Queen’s IRC, and is completing the Certificate in Organizational Coaching at the University of British Columbia.
In 2020, Janet founded EduSelect, a K-12 human resource consultancy specializing in recruitment and selection practices. Her book, Hiring Well, Building Strong Selection Practices in K-12, will be on shelves in May 2021.
