Prior to using Apply To Education

Before moving to ATE’s PD Module, SCDSB used an in-house for PD registration, with the employee then creating their absence in a separate absence reporting system. This was a challenge, according to Heather Fuller, Professional Learning and Staff Development Assistant.

“Our previous PD registration system was cumbersome for the person creating the session,” she says. “The budget department would then have to manually tie GL codes to employee PD absences. It was a cryptic, backwards search.”

Their in-house process was not integrated with their dispatch and required manual input. According to Fuller, this made it difficult to keep records, fill absences and deliver reports.

Additionally, anyone with access could mistakenly change session times or sizes, leading to surprises before and after the training sessions.

Apply To Education’s solution

Fuller says that ATE’s PD module has alleviated the administrative burden of tracking employee training manually.  Previously, more than 20 employees had access to the PD system – now, she creates all the sessions through ATE’s module.

The centralized platform automatically associates GL codes with employees who participated in training, making it easier for the board’s budget team to keep track of sessions. Fuller says this makes it easier for reporting purposes.

Fuller says that ATE’s PD module has vastly reduced the amount of time she spends on managing PD events by 25%. By cloning past events and using the module’s built-in emailing system, she can create and share new PD sessions much faster.

“Previously, it could take a day to create a PD session. Now, I can get a PD session built in five minutes.”

ATE’s Dispatch Module also automatically fills the absences created through the PD registration process, further reducing administrative work.
